Nigeria: World Cup 2014 - Eagles to Arrive Brazil June 11

Super Eagles of Nigeria will arrive in Brazil on June 11, a day before the start of the World Cup in Sao Paulo. Their date of arrival will also leave them a five-day grace before they test the water against Iran in their first match in Curitiba.
A sniff into the national team's World Cup plan came last night courtesy of the General Secretary of Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Musa Amadu, six months before the start of the world's biggest football event.
The Eagles will have their headquarters in Brazil in the gateway city of Sao Paulo Guarulhos. They will pitch their nest in Hotel Vitoria, Campinas from where they will shuttle across the South American country for all their matches.
Amadu similarly gave May 28 as the date when the training camp for all invited players will open. The team is expected to train in Mexico which is strategic given its proximity to the United States in addition to boasting of the same weather as Sao Paulo where Nigeria will be based.
Though a friendly match is in the pipeline on March 5 which is a FIFA international window, Amadu said the federation was also working behind the scene to ensure that the Eagles play between two and four warm-up matches before the World Cup.
The matches will enable Coach Stephen Keshi to assess new players, see his most likely players and select the 23 players that will constitute the World Cup squad.
Amadu assured that the Nigerian federation will do its best to ensure that the Super Eagles are well prepared for the World Cup in response to the expectation of a football crazy public.
The Eagles have not met Iran since Nigeria defeated the Middle East nation 1-0 courtesy of a goal by Ahmed 'Yaro Yaro' Garba, during the Carlsberg Cup in Hong Kong in January 1998.
Amadu said Nigerian officials already have idea of the Iranians and will do a technical analysis of their style of play.
"The key factor to success is preparation as name does not count at this stage. The most important thing is to identify your opponent and make technical analysis and preparation. We have a good idea of who the Iranians are and will prepare for them", he said.
Nigeria's other group fixtures will be against Bosnia in Cuiaba and Argentina in Porto Alegre. The matches will be played on June 21and June 26 respectively.

Nigeria: Ministry of Aviation Pulls Down Stella Oduah's Profile From Own Website

Aviation Minister Stella Oduah will not respond to allegations that she listed in her resume an academic qualification that she might not have obtained, an aide said yesterday.
Ms. Oduah is being accused of falsely claiming to have a Master's Degree in Business Administration from a U.S. college, because the college says it never offered that course.
Attempts by Daily Trust to speak with the minister's office on Tuesday failed as her aides did not answer calls or respond to text messages.
Yesterday, a spokesman for aviation parastatals, Mr. Yakubu Dati, who also speaks for the minister, told the BBC Hausa radio that they have decided not to respond to the accusations against Ms. Oduah.
He did not give reasons for that.
Online portal, Sahara Reporters, on Monday quoted authorities at St. Paul's College, where Ms. Oduah claimed she studied for Bachelor's and Master's Degrees, as saying they did not award an MBA at any time as the university does not even have a graduate school or programme.
On Tuesday, Premium Times said it observed an attempt by the minister's aides to revise her profiles on the web to clean up any reference to St. Paul's College in her bios.
Oduah had recently been enmeshed in the bulletproof cars purchase scandal, over which the House of Representatives has demanded her sack.
She told Daily Trust over a week ago that the armoured cars were leased and not purchased.

BREAKING: Uwe Gemballa reportedly found murdered in South Africa

News is coming in that the body of Uwe Gemballa has been found in South Africa. Gemballa was the former CEO of the Porsche tuning company that bears his name. As we reported earlier this year, Mr. Gemballa went missing in February after arriving in South Africa for a business trip.

The details that poured in after the reported disappearance of Gemballa caused great speculation that shady business deals were afoot. He was reportedly having trouble paying its employees, his wife was given power of attorney and registered the company for bankruptcy and he had started a second company with his 79 year-old mother listed as the sole stockholder.

To further muddy the waters, it's being reported that Uwe Gemballa was turning towards Czech fugitive and South African organized crime boss, Radovan Krejcir. A former business partner of Krejcirs by the name of Juan Meyer has provided the local police with a sworn statement, saying that the Porsche tuner and the mobster were working on a business arrangement. Gemballa was slow in getting money to Krejcir and it may be what cost him his life.

It's a sad, speculative end for a once famed tuner of German sports cars. The Gemballa company has moved on since Uwe's disappearance but these new stories can't help it as remaining employees attempt to revive the company. Thanks for the tips, Alexander and Nicolas!

JOHANNESBURG, SOUTH AFRICA (BosNewsLife)-- Nelson Mandela, who became South Africa's first black president, has died at age 95. The elderly statesman, viewed as a symbol of reconciliation and forgiveness following his fight against apartheid and 27 years of imprisonment, leaves behind a nation in mourning, suggested President Jacob Zuma.

"Our thoughts are with his friends and family," said an emotional Zuma, who addressed the nation on television. "Nelson Mandela has departed" peacefully at his Johannesburg home around 8.50pm local time, he said. "We’ve lost our greatest son. Our people have lost a father."

However, "He is now resting. He is now at peace," Zuma also said.

Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela will be remembered as the first black South African to become president. He was also the first head-of-state to be elected in a fully representative, multiracial vote.

Under his 1994-to-1999 presidency he helped to dismantle the painful legacy of apartheid through tackling institutionalised racism, poverty and inequality, and fostering racial reconciliation.

AFRICAN NATIONAL CONGRESS

Viewed by some as both an African patriot and a democratic Socialist, he served as president of the African National Congress (ANC) from 1991 to 1997 and was also .

Mandela was also secretary-general of the key Non-Aligned Movement from 1998 to 1999.

The late leader will have a state funeral, said President Zuma. The president ordered all flags in the nation to be flown at half-staff from Friday through that funeral.

While there was an outpouring of grief, Mandela's death did not came unexpected. He had battled health issues in recent months, including a recurring lung infection that led to numerous hospitalizations.

BOUTS OF ILLNESS

With advancing age and bouts of illness, Mandela retreated to a quiet life at his boyhood home in the nation's Eastern Cape Province, where he said he was most at peace.

He was later moved to his home in the Johannesburg suburb of Houghton, where he died, his family said.

Despite rare public appearances, he held a special place in the consciousness of the nation and the world, where many saw Mandela as one of recent history's last great statesmen, a moral paragon comparable with India's Mohandas Gandhi and America's Martin Luther King.

Mandela was praised internationally for his act of forgiveness after spending 27 years in prison, 18 of them on Robben Island. With South Africa facing possible civil war, Mandela sought reconciliation with the white minority to build a new democracy.

He led the ANC to victory in the country's first multiracial election in 1994. Unlike other African liberation leaders who cling to power, such as Zimbabwe's Robert Mugabe, he then voluntarily stepped down after one term, observers noted.

NOBEL PRIZE WINNER

Mandela, often affectionately known by his clan name, Madiba‚ was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1993, an honor he shared with with white South African laeder F.W. de Klerk,  who released from jail the world's most famous political prisoner.

At his inauguration a year later, new President Madela said: "Never, never, and never again shall it be that this beautiful land will again experience the oppression of one by another ... the sun shall never set on so glorious a human achievement. Let freedom reign. God bless Africa!"

The highlight of Mandela's presidential mission was the Truth and Reconciliation Commission which probed apartheid crimes on both sides of the struggle and tried to heal the country's wounds of history.

It also provided a model for other countries torn by civil strife.

In 1999, Mandela handed over power to younger leaders better equipped to manage a modern economy - a rare voluntary departure from power cited as an example to African leaders.

FINAL APPEARANCE

In retirement, he shifted his energies to battling South Africa's AIDS crisis and the struggle became personal when he lost his only surviving son to the disease in 2005.

Mandela's last major appearance on the global stage came in 2010 when he attended the championship match of the soccer World Cup, where he received a thunderous ovation from the 90,000 at the stadium in Soweto, the neighborhood in which he cut his teeth as a resistance leader.

Charged with capital offenses in the infamous 1963 Rivonia Trial, his statement from the dock became his political testimony.

“During my lifetime I have dedicated myself to this struggle of the African people. I have fought against white domination, and I have fought against black domination," he said.
